Plated Versus Hello Fresh Subscription Boxes

Plated Versus Hello Fresh

If you are interested in starting a food delivery subscription, you will find many will offer you a great deal and each one offers something the other does not.

I found it interesting to compare the two popular choices out there: Plated and Hello Fresh.

Although they appear to be visually similar in concepts, both offer you a unique buying service based on you (the consumer) and your needs. Both will offer to deliver fresh, ready-to-cook ingredients paired with gourmet recipes!

The best thing about these subscription boxes is that you can cook delicious meals without the hassle of  shopping for ingredients and  no need to recipe hunt! The best reason to try one of these services is the thrill of removing excess waste; you only get what you need!

Each company will provide you with the ingredients you need for every dish, which saves you from making a trip to the grocery store! I found that I am the type that goes grocery shopping and although I have a list, will always find myself dumping a whole lot of junk in my cart. Then I get home to find I didn’t get everything I needed for that nights dinner (ahhh.. sorry had a flashback moment… it is so aggravating; especially, if you have little ones that you have to put back in the car)!

Let’s do some comparing!!!

Plated

Cost: $15 per plate  without membership (minimum 4 plates), so you will pay $60 each week/bi-weekly/or month

Monthly Membership Fee can be added of $10 to reduce the plate costs to $12 per plate (Members save $3 per plate), which then you will only pay $48 plus the $10 membership fee. If you plan to purchase at least twice a month the membership price will be the best deal saving you $12 at least month!

The menu is updated weekly and I love how they have ton’s of recipes each week!!! They even send me updated recipe cards every week in my email, which I love strictly for the convenience factor!

You can skip multiple weeks, but it would be wise to at least order twice a month if you pay the membership fee; otherwise, you are loosing out.

Hello Fresh

Cost: Ranges anywhere from $69 to $129 (veggie boxes will cost less)

Choose any option: (2) two person meals or (1) four person meal. Customizable options depending on your needs and how many people you plan to feed.

The cost is great for the amount of food you receive… I usually can order a two person meal and feed three people, which is perfect for my family. However, the reality is is that the price per plate is around $17.25 a plate. In comparison to Plated,  Hello Fresh offers their meals without monthly membership fee, so you are only paying for the price of your food and still can skip as much as you want throughout the month!

New meals available every week, but I have to manually find out what they are :( (with the exception of an automated email with no preview letting me know it is selection time).

Conclusion:

I feel that  Plated’s menu has the advantage if your looking for bold taste, because they constantly add several completely new meals every week; unfortunately, Hello Fresh offers one or two new items on their menu each week. It is perplexing a bit , because I found tat even though Plated had more selection, Hello Fresh had food that I would frequently want to try and the recipes allowed me to try new foods in a way I would never do alone!

As mentioned earlier, both depend on what you are looking for and can offer each subscriber with a healthier lifestyle. I couldn’t pick one, so I am the member of both! Why?

I enjoy Plated ‘s  menu options and pricing; but sometimes found that I liked what Hello Fresh was offering better that week (like their Chicken Skewers this week…yummy). Although pricing seems high for both I found it was comparable to me going out to eat (just healthier) and we eat out a lot!

If you can only pick one, start with the one with the best promotional offer to start and compare the recipes (coupon codes below)!

If you consider how much you waste and the processes for normal grocery shopping, you would probably switch to one of the two right now!

Consider this:

  • Time it takes at the grocery store

  • What food choices are you making in a rush? Fast food?

  • Time it takes Searching for a decent recipe

  • Do you ever get all the ingredients you need for a recipe?

  • How do you get out of your food norm loop (the continual ground beef, chicken, and pork chops gets pretty boring every night)

Both offer Promotion/Coupon Codes:
